Compare two speed tests
Change one thing, test again, and see whether it actually helped. Your tests stay in this browser.
Run one test on Wi-Fi, plug the same device into the router with a cable, run a second test, then pick both here. A big gap means Wi-Fi is the bottleneck.
Two or three per setup is better than one, because single tests vary. Compare the typical result of each setup rather than the best one.

Compare two of your saved speed tests side by side. See the change in download, upload, ping, jitter and Health Score after a router restart, a cable or a VPN change.
Key points
- Use the same device and browser for both tests.
- Change only one thing between them: the cable, the band, the VPN or the router restart.
- Close other tabs and pause downloads on other devices.
- Run each setup twice if the numbers look close. Differences under about 10% are normal test to test variation.
- Wi-Fi and cable: a large gap means the problem is inside your home. See Wi-Fi vs Ethernet .
- 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz: 5 GHz is usually faster close to the router; 2.4 GHz reaches further through walls.
- VPN on and off: a VPN adds distance and encryption, so some loss is expected. A very large drop points to a busy VPN server.
- Evening and morning: if only evenings are slow, the line is likely congested. See peak hours slowdown .
